What is a Rain Cover?

“Rain Cover,” defines itself in the name: a piece of fabric or membrane used to protect and cover something from rain and stormwater. This can range widely in applications. Ponchos, wide-brimmed hats, tarps, stroller covers, and even umbrellas are kinds of rain covers. But what are we talking about here? In industrial applications, rain can wreak havoc on a construction site, farmland, etc. A simple tarp is made from thin plastics, and often can’t handle the extreme conditions that are required. BTL manufactures high-quality, durable rain covers that can be customized into virtually any size or shape. These large pieces of flexible polyethylene or polyester are designed to withstand some of the harshest conditions. BTL’s ArmorCover can be used to protect hay bales, control turf and field drainage, cover light deprivation greenhouses, or be used as temporary daily covers in waste management.

Rain is a powerful force. It can carve out valleys, displace pounds of soil, wash away hard work and nurture mold where we don’t want it. Moisture, erosion, and leakage are all main concerns when it comes to rain and how to defend against it.

What Can Rain Do?

Moisture:

Moisture seems inconspicuous enough -- after all what can a little water really do? But just a small amount of moisture in the wrong place can go a long way. Bacteria and mold adore moisture, and creating cool, dark, wet places for them to thrive can lead to serious colony production, and serious problems. This can weaken material as the moisture settles and microbes remain. Wood will bend and warp if it becomes too saturated and can even begin to rot.

Erosion:

Running water can create a nightmare for yards, construction sites, DIY projects, gardens, and the like. As water moves it picks up pieces of sediment to carry along with it. This picks up and displaces soil, as well as creates a corrosive mixture in the liquid that makes its eroding power even stronger.

Stormwater:

Rain that has flowed over roofs, sidewalks, pavement, and other impermeable materials picks up a lot of toxins along the way. Household chemicals like detergents and pesticides, or even industrial waste can be found in stormwater. As water flows downward, it carries the toxins with it. This can cause serious problems if it's allowed to flow into places where humans live and grow their food.

The ideal rain cover is light enough to maneuver, waterproof, durable, and long-lasting. BTL’s ArmorCover is made out of a blend of high density and low-density polyethylene, combining the benefits of each to provide flexibility without sacrificing strength. The material is completely waterproof and guaranteed to reduce the risks of moisture or erosion that rain can bring. In cases where light transmission is essential, BTL’s ArmorClear is just as strong, while still allowing light to pass through the material.
