It’s important to evaluate not only the material used for your baffle system, but the supplier as well, since your choice of baffles will effect the ease and cost of disinfection operations for decades to come. BTL Liners proudly offers AquaArmor XR - 3 PW for use in clearwell disinfection tanks, the leader in potable water certified geomembranes.
Certified for Potable Water
Any materials in contact with water that could be used for human consumption, including clearwell baffles, must be certified to meet safety standards for potable water. A product or material that’s NSF 61 certified means that it has been thoroughly tested and has met strict standards for public health protection.
Chemical Resistance
Potable water from municipal treatment plants is required to have some level of chlorine or chloramine disinfectant still active as it begins its journey through the distribution network. The EPA’s SWDA sets minimum standards here so that potable water maintains its ability to inactivate any microorganisms that it contacts until it reaches the tap. To achieve this residual disinfectant ability, treated water must be mixed with a chlorine-type chemical, regardless of the original disinfection method. This means that all water, even UV-sterilized and ozone-treated water must go through a clearwell, contact, or disinfection tank where it mixes with chlorine or chloramine.
At the point of injection, chemical levels can be quite high in the clearwell reservoir or contact tank, so baffle materials must be able to resist the oxidizing effects of chlorine compounds. However, many typical baffle materials like hydrocarbon-based plastics, are inherently vulnerable to damage from chlorine.
AquaArmor XR - 3 PW is a coated geomembrane, meaning that it’s constructed of a base fabric encapsulated by a polymer-formulated coating sometimes known as EIA (ethylene interpolymer alloy). Due to the strong bond between the EIA coating and the base fabric, XR - 3 PW offers outstanding resistance to chlorine oxidation.
Strength and Durability
Over years of service, disinfection tank baffles must withstand the forces of constantly flowing water without tearing, becoming stiff, or stretching out of shape. Even minor failures in a baffle’s performance could significantly impact critical functions like contact time or mixing and could trigger SWDA violations before the problem is even identified.
XR - 3 PW’s woven nylon reinforcing core is both lightweight and strong. The core’s high tensile strength makes the geomembrane dimensionally stable, so that even while it remains flexible, it won’t stretch out of shape. Additionally, the material is highly resistant to tears or seam failure even after years of service.
Custom Design & Fabrication
Clearwell baffles from BTL Liners can be configured for a variety of flow patterns according to your unique operational requirements. Talk to our experts to find out how we can fabricate baffle designs with flow under, flow over, flow around and flow through configurations to match your treatment requirements.
Once the particulars are finalized, we’ll use your design specs to fabricate your baffles in-house, where the highest quality standards can be maintained. Your baffles will arrive on site with attachment hardware and reinforcing seams already in place, reducing installation time and costs while maximizing structural integrity.
Easy to Ship & Install
Clearwell baffles from BTL Liners are remarkably easy to ship and install. They’re lightweight and flexible enough to be folded or rolled, facilitating transport through hatches or small manways. This small feature alone can eliminate the need for expensive structural modifications.
BTL Liners’ clearwell baffles are durable, custom fabricated, cost-effective and ideal for clearwells, contact tanks, disinfecting tanks, and any broad chemical-resistant applications that require high-strength, flexible membranes.
